Ford Mustang Extends Presence in SRO GT4 Category with New Mustang GT4 Race Car for 2024 Global Competition

Ford’s iconic Mustang brand continues to make waves in the world of motorsports with the official debut of the Mustang GT4. This high-performance race car, based on the 2024 Mustang Dark Horse, marks Ford’s second entry in the SRO GT4 category following the recent introduction of the Mustang GT3.

The Mustang GT4 is a product of Ford’s commitment to providing race cars for a wide range of competitors, from amateur grassroots racers to professional teams. It is built in partnership with Multimatic and features a Coyote-based V8 engine developed entirely in-house by Ford Performance.

In keeping with Ford’s tradition of eye-catching liveries, the Mustang GT4 showcases a bold and vibrant design adapted from the renowned livery designs by Troy Lee Designs, a leading name in motorsports livery creation.

Mark Rushbrook, Global Director of Ford Performance Motorsports, emphasizes the importance of the Mustang GT4 in Ford’s motorsports lineup and customer racing program. He states, “With this new version, based on the seventh generation’s new Dark Horse model, we’ve upped the game and are ready to challenge an entire world of competitors.”

The Mustang GT4 joins the expanding family of Mustang race cars, which includes the Mustang GT3 and the upcoming Mustang Dark Horse R, among others. These vehicles represent Ford’s dedication to maintaining Mustang’s reputation as the most raced and successful nameplate, competing on legendary tracks worldwide, from Daytona to Bathurst. The accessibility of Mustang race cars ranges from professional GT racing to consumer track days, ensuring that Mustang truly races everywhere.

To bring the Mustang GT4 to life, Ford Performance strengthens its partnership with Multimatic, who will handle the production of every Mustang GT4. The race car’s Ford Coyote-based V8 engines, developed entirely by Ford Performance, will be assembled in Dearborn, Michigan.

Christian Hertrich, Motorsports Powertrain Manager at Ford Performance, expresses pride in working with esteemed partners and the opportunity to conduct all engine work for the Mustang GT4 in-house. He states, “We’ve got a great team, and I’m excited for Mustang fans to see the Mustang GT4 in action.”

The Mustang GT4 race car boasts advanced features, including Multimatic DSSV dampers, a Holinger dog-ring gearbox, paddle shifters with pneumatic actuation, and natural fiber body panels. Additionally, it sports a unique aerodynamic package specifically developed to meet the targets of the GT4 category.
